First, cut the green card stock into a cloud-like shape, to make this straw painting apple tree craft. This will be the leaves of the apple tree.

Then add a few drops of water to the paints and stir to combine the water and paint.

Straw drop painting is a great technique to use when the paints are almost gone. Just add a few drops of water to use up that last bit of paint in the jar.

Next, practice drop painting with the straws.

You’ll find a TON of creative painting ideas here.

Use a straw to create a straw drop painting apple tree craft

Before we painted on the apple tree, I showed my daughter how to use the straw for drop painting.

Dip one end of the straw into the paint and let the paint drip from the end onto the paper.

You can also dab the straw onto the paper to get a textured look to the paint.

Next, drop the paint onto the card stock with the green and red paint.

Kids might want to apply the green paint first and then layer the red on top to make the apples of the apple tree, but it is fun to explore how the paints look when they are combined by dropping with the straw.

Straw Drop Painting is a Fine Motor Painting Activity

Using the straw to paint is a great fine motor activity for kids.

The straw painting allows kids to work on eye-hand coordination to move the straw over to the tree and placing the paint where they like.

Depending on how they hold the straw, it could be a way to work on tripod grasp, which is needed for manipulating a pencil.
