I'm headed for National Service, Singapore

Conscripted for Singapore National Service (NS) in October this year, I am keen to study statistics at university in the coming years. Interpreting data of real world problems excites me, and statistics can be applied to any field that uses data.

I'm looking forward to being in a new environment, meeting new people, and pushing my physical and mental limits. To future enlistees, know the landmarks of the NS enlistment process. Missing something such as the medical or other important notices can cause frustration, so watch out for that. Other than that, keep a positive attitude toward your future, which will be very different from your peers.

My favorite SAS memory is hands down the senior walk. Walking the length of the campus—essentially looking back on the last 10 years of my life—was an emotional trip down memory lane.

The academic rigor at SAS has prepared me for NS life. But more importantly, it is the interactions with students and teachers over the years that have made me more confident. The Class of 2017 was a true inspiration. They modeled how to balance academic work and have fun at the same time.

I will miss this community. Students, teachers, and faculty—everyone is always so committed to helping each other. I would not have been able to get through high school without their support.
